Geocache Description:

Hidden to celebrate 20 years of England's oldest remaining cache,
GC171 - The View From Coombe Hill, 10 years after X Marks the Year (Bucks) was hidden. It's also the spiritual successor to Monumentalist (Bucks), from June 2006. As you can see, Coombe Hill is a very historic spot for English and British Geocaching!

When Brad Yuan & Steph Adler placed a box on Coombe Hill on the 14th of January 2001 could they have expected the game of Geocaching to be going from strength to strength 20+ years on? This cache was hidden 20 years later to celebrate England's oldest existing cache, and the UK's 2nd oldest (after GCF0 Scotland's First) which is within sight of the monument. Hidden the same day - and seemingly the UK's earliest found cache - GC177 is not far away, at Ashridge; another free-to-enter National Trust location which is also pretty with a destinctive monument.

At the given co-ords you'll find an iconic structure for the area, as well as views across the Vale of Aylesbury and of Chequres, the PM's country retreat. Here you'll discover a list starting '1st Oxfordshire L.I.' as well as other info.

The final cache is at N51° 4 - Sergt. Clarke, C - . - Pte. Brooks, W. - Sergt. Cadley, F. - Major Day, C.R.'

W000° 4 - Physically NOT Numerically Higher Dragoon Guards - . - 2? January 1938 - ...one of marble in 19?2 - 20th October 20?0'

(Checksum of the gathered digits is 39)

This is a little distance away, but there shoud be wheelchair or stroller access accept for the last few feet/metres. Perhaps a little mud too. You could cheat and find the answers online, but then you'd miss those magnificent views which gave their name to England's longest surviving cache. Good luck and have fun!

Hidden with the kind assistance of the National Trust and a 2018 US event host JoyfulNomad, who provided the box :)

Please note, the stamp in the box makes this a Letterbox/Hybrid. It's not a swap; please don't remove it. Thank you.
