Geocache Description:

“I'd like to see a nature film where an eagle swoops down and pulls a fish out of a lake, and then maybe he's flying along, low to the ground, and the fish pulls a worm out of the ground. Now that's a documentary.”

How about a change of pace for the Deep Thoughts series? Here's a short Multicache that will take you on a brief tour around a former drive-in theatre site. Try to figure out how to make use of some one-word movie title-themed stops to narrow down your final destination.

This neighbourhood was home to a favourite spot for movie-goers back in the 60s and early 70s. The land currently occupied by a temporarily-repurposed ICBC Claim Centre used to be home to North Vancouver's premier drive-in theatre, the Lions Drive-In, named after the famous twin mountain peaks that keep watch over us.

Many a North Shore youngster was allowed to stay up past their bedtime and eat copious amounts of junk food while seated comfortably in the family car, watching cartoons and a feature film with the tinny speaker blaring from its perch, hung on the driver's side window. And if the kids fell asleep during the drive home after the movie it didn’t matter – they were usually already in their PJs, ready to be tucked into bed as soon as the family got home!

Opened on May 9, 1951 the LionsDrive-In Theatre stood as a North Shore icon until its closing in 1973.

(Note: the information presented on this cache page is based on the cache owner's own personal recollection of the old drive-in theatre, and is therefore subject to correction and update as the memories and observations of others become available. Please bear in mind that this is just a geocache placed here for your enjoyment and it is in no way intended to be a factual historical record.)
