Pocahontas State Park has some great trails for hiking, horse riding, and even some fantastically crazy and fun bike trails. But things move at a slower pace on the Big Poplar Trail. Come see for yourself. Just don't be in a hurry. Even the nearby Box Turtle Bike Trail is way too fast for me. Stick to the Big Poplar Trail and you'll see.
FYI - The Big Popar Trail doesn't appear on all maps, but I assure you that is there (check photo gallery). Use the trailhead waypoint. The free Avenza app has a very nice map of this trail (and all Pocahontas State Park trails). The Big Poplar Trail is a 0.7 mile loop trail that starts and ends at the parking lot above the ampitheater. I prefer the counter-clockwise loop, but clockwise is nice also. And yes, there is a BIG poplar.
