Patchwork is the craft of sewing in which small pieces of fabric of different designs, colours or textures are sewn together. During the COVID-19 pandemic I have had plenty of time to make quilts for friends and family. As we make steps towards a new normal I am trying to complete a few projects.
A number of months ago I started making a quilt from my stash of fabrics. I cut 2.5 by 2.5 inch squares from a variety of dark blue patterned materials and from plain antique white fabric. In total I cut 625 squares.
I made 25 square blocks.
Having completed the blocks I laid them out to form a large square quilt. I was pleased with the result but I didn’t have time to sew the quilt together and I forgot to take a photograph of the layout.
I remember that, as always, I carefully stacked the blocks so that they were all aligned in the same direction. When laying out your quilt you do not need to rotate any blocks.
However, months on, I can’t remember which block I lifted first and what pattern, if any, I followed.
The Puzzle
- Make 25 square blocks.
- The patterns for each 25 square block comprise 5 rows.
- Patterned fabric will be denoted by P and white fabric by W.
- The pattern for each block will comprise 25 letters in a single line, the first 5 letters will be the first row left to right, the second 5 the second row and so on.
- Arrange the blocks into a quilt.
