The Location
Nowa Nowa's two Memorial Rose Gardens and surrounding green space is a great spot for locals and travellers alike, making this location worthy of (yet another) cache in this area.
For Locals: This location is home to Gippsland Lakes Complete Health. Co-located here is the Nowa Nowa community garden. The local focus on community health is everywhere, and what better excuse to get you out and about and moving in nature than a geocache? This is also home to the local war memorial featuring stone cairn, decommissioned cannon (?), and wood carved sculpture.
For Travellers: The green space around the gardens, the Nowa Nowa Community Complex, is a great space to get out and stretch the legs, either before or after popping under the underpass taking you beneath Bruthen-Nowa Nowa Road to the general store and toilets, if looking for a longer stop than a park and grab. There are information signs that tell you about the history of Nowa Nowa if looking to stroll around town, and the Nowa Nowa Nature, Culture and Sculpture Walks if looking to explore further. I haven't ventured far myself but I was surprised to find a wooden trestle bridge up behind the caravan park, just follow the lake up.
For Everyone: The East Gippsland Rail Trail path comes within meters of the cache's hiding location. Whether exploring locally or further, this makes the cache highly accessible not only by car.
The Cache
In an area so accessible I didn't want a cache that would be disturbed by muggles. There were many possible hiding spots here but all were suitable only for a micro cache so I went with the obvious hiding spot given the name of this cache. The cache is a small Eclipse mint container. You will need to bring your own pen.
