Kalvária v Terchovej

Malebná severoslovenská obec Terchová obklopená panenskou prírodou Malej Fatry je nielen vyhľadávanou turistickou lokalitou, ale i významným pútnickým miestom. Nachádza sa v nej rímskokatolícky kostol zasvätený sv. Cyrilovi a Metodovi, ktorý je najväčším chrámom venovaným týmto vierozvestcom na Slovensku. V obci sa navyše už desiatky rokov konajú Cyrilometodské dni.

Nachádza sa tu však aj vskutku unikátna kalvária, a to z toho dôvodu, že na nej na rozdiel od ostatných nenájdete kaplnky, ale kríže položené na zemi a sochy. Sú vyrobené z kameňa a doplnené skleneným detailom. Kameň ma lokálny pôvod, vyťažil sa v Terchovej pred viac ako sto rokmi.

Autorom tejto kalvárie je akademický sochár a rodák z Terchovej Milan Opalka. Bol prvým porevolučným starostom Terchovej, zaslúžil sa aj o vznik Cyrilometodských dní v roku 1990, novín Terchová a ďalších významných podujatí. Podieľal sa tak na umeleckom a duchovnom rozvoji Terchovej.

Začiatok krížovej cesty je nad Ďurkovým lazom, ktorý sa nachádza pri Roľníckom družstve Terchová a pokračuje na vrch Oravcové. Jednotlivé zastavenia sú zhmotnené v tvare kríža, ktorý je vždy v polohe, ktorá symbolizuje obsah zastavenia. Na mieste niektorých zastavení je namiesto kríža socha.Zaujímavosťou sú detaily na jednotlivých zastaveniach (viac v zadaní kešky). Na poslednom štrnástom zastavení nie je kríž ale kameň, ktorým bol zavalený Ježišov hrob. Na vrchole cesty s prekrásnym výhľadom na obec a okolitý kraj sa pod holým nebom nachádza majestátny kamenný oltár - Cyrilometodský kríž.

Krížová cesta bola vysvätená 3. júla 2006 počas sedemnásteho ročníka Cyrilometodských dní. Pobožnosť na nej sa prvýkrát konala 15. septembra 2006 na sviatok Sedembolestnej Panny Márie. Vyvrcholením Cyrilometodských dní v súčasnosti býva procesia veriacich idúca od Kostola sv. Cyrila a Metoda po krížovej ceste na vrch Oravcové, kde sa slúži sv. omša.

Ku krížovej ceste sa dostanete z obce žltou turistickou značkou a je to príjemná prechádzka, ktorá netrvá viac ako 20 minút.

The picturesque northern Slovak village of Terchová, surrounded by the virgin nature of the Malá Fatra Mountains, is not only a popular tourist location, but also an important pilgrimage site. It is home to a Roman Catholic church dedicated to St. Cyril and Methodius, which is the largest church dedicated to these worshippers in Slovakia. 

In addition, the Cyril and Methodius Days have been held in the village for decades. However, there is also a truly unique Calvary here, because unlike the others, you will not find chapels there, but crosses placed on the ground and statues. They are made of stone and complemented by glass details. The stone has local origin, it was quarried in Terchová more than a hundred years ago. 

The author of this Calvary is the academic sculptor and native of Terchová Milan Opalka. He was the first post-revolutionary mayor of Terchová, he also contributed to the establishment of the Cyril and Methodius Days in 1990, the Terchová newspaper and other important events. He thus participated in the artistic and spiritual development of Terchová. 

The beginning of the Calvary is above Ďurkov settlement and continues to Oravcové Hill. The individual stops are materialized in the shape of a cross, which is always in a position that symbolizes the content of the stop. At the location of some stops, there is a statue instead of a cross. 

The details at the individual stops are interesting. At the last fourteenth stop, there is not a cross but a stone with which Jesus's grave was covered. At the top of the road with a beautiful view of the village and the surrounding region, there is a majestic stone altar under the open sky -  Cyril and Methodius Cross. 

The stations were consecrated on July 3, 2006 during the seventeenth year of the Cyril and Methodius Days. The first devotion on it was held on September 15, 2006, on the feast of the Seven Sorrows of Our Lady. The culmination of the Cyril and Methodius Days is currently a procession of worshippers going from the Church of St. Cyril and Methodius along the Stations of the Cross to the Oravcové Hill, where Holy Mass is celebrated. You can reach the Stations of the Cross from the village by following the yellow tourist sign and it is a pleasant walk that does not take more than 20 minutes.
