Welcome to the beginning….or end...of the Astoria Riverwalk. Are you starting? Or finishing? Coming? Or going?
Stretching five miles along the Astoria waterfront, the Riverwalk offers grand views of the mighty Columbia River. And just a quarter mile from the cache you can set yourself down on a bench and enjoy the view. The river is over five miles wide at this point and if you don’t see a passing ship (over a thousand per year), you will most likely see several anchored ships.
For those of you who are unfamiliar with ships and rivers...Do the anchored ships have their bows headed towards the ocean? Then the tide is coming in. Are the ships’ bows headed upriver? Then the tide is going out. Are the ships sideways in the river? Then the tide is changing and the ships are swinging around their anchors. Many times there will be ten or more ships anchored. They may be undergoing inspections, waiting for a berth upriver, or waiting for orders as to their next destination.
The cache should be quick and easy and contains a log, pencil, and a few small items for trade. Beware of muggles who may suddenly appear from around the curve of the walk!
