Watership Down Mystery Cache

This cache has been archived.

Farmer's Daughters: Sadly, this cache must be archived, as the tree that was its home has recently been cut down. Hazel and Fiver still live on though, in our hearts.

Watership Down, one of our favourite novels, began as a tale that Richard Adams told to his daughters to entertain them during long car rides. How many daughters did he have? That is “c”. His daughters encouraged him to write the story down and submit it to publishers. It was rejected repeatedly, but was finally published in 197”d”. The second edition was published in 197”a”. Watership Down was then adapted into an animated film in 1978, then into an animated television series which ran from 1999 to 20”b”1.

The novel tells of the trials, temptations and tribulations of a small group of rabbits who escape the destruction of their home and attempt to establish a new warren. It begins with a young rabbit named Fiver having terrifying visions of death. He and his brother decide they must leave their home, and try to persuade others to come with them. How many other rabbits decide to leave with them? That number is “e”. How many rabbits in this original group are does? That is “f”. The rabbit that eventually emerges as the group’s leader is Fiver’s brother. How many letters are in his name? That is “g”.
