Arte Nova é um estilo de arquitetura e de artes decorativas considerada uma “arte bela com proporção, caracter e harmonia” (Adães Bermudes).
Caracteriza-se pelas suas formas orgânicas da natureza, pelo trabalho artesanal, extremo zelo com todos os detalhes e pelo uso combinado de ferro forjado, vidro, pedra, madeira e azulejos.
Em Aveiro surgiu em 1904 com uma interpretação muito própria, concentrada nos aspetos decorativos das fachadas. O uso de azulejos frequentemente com cores exuberantes é uma das características que mais sobressai e que dá uma vida particular à cidade. O edifício da Cooperativa Agricola é um dos grandes exemplos cuja fachada está integralmente revestida a azulejos com lírios pintados à mão provenientes da Fábrica Fonte Nova, uma das industrias mais importantes de Aveiro.
Outra das produções indiscutivelmente Arte Nova, e por vezes esquecida, dado estar mais afastada do centro onde se encontram a maioria dos edificios arte Nova em Aveiro é a antiga “Vivenda da Rua Von Haff”. A vivenda foi desenhada e construída por José de Pinho, reconhecido pintor regional que desde cedo entrou para a cerâmica Fonte Nova e se iniciou nas artes, principalmente o desenho e a pintura. Consta que José de Pinho construiu a casa para a filha. A sua construção terá sido entre 1908 e 1910. O edifício conjuga as várias caracteristicas da Arte Nova: belas janelas cujas molduras estão decoradas com grinaldas e delicados pendões floridos, uma fachada com uma cimalha revestida por azulejos e ainda duas coroas de flores Arte Nova esculpidas. Salienta-se a janela elíptica “arco japonês”.

It is characterized by its organic forms of nature, the crafts, extreme zeal with all details and by the combined use of wrought iron, glass, stone, wood and tiles.
In Aveiro it emergedin 1904 with a very own interpretation, focused on the decorative aspects of the façades. The use of tiles often with exuberant colors is one of the characteristics that most stands out and that gives a particular life to the city. The Cooperativa Agricola building is one of the great examples whose façade is entirely covered with tiles with hand-painted lilies from the Fonte Nova Factory, one of the most important industries in Aveiro.
Another of the unquestionably Art Nouveau production, and sometimes overlooked, as it is further away from the center where most of the Art Nouveau buildings in Aveiro are located, is the old “Vivenda da Rua Von Haff”. The villa was designed and built by José de Pinho, a renowned regional painter who joined the Fonte Nova pottery early on and started in the arts, mainly drawing and painting. It is said that José de Pinho built the house for his daughter. Its construction would have been between 1908 and 1910. The building combines the various characteristics of Art Nouveau: beautiful windows whose frames are decorated with wreaths and delicate flowery tassels, a façade with a tile-covered cymbal and two sculpted Art Nouveau wreaths. The “Japanese arch” elliptical window is highlighted.
