“Dare Mighty Things” is the unofficial motto of NASA’s JPL, the Jet Propulsion Laboratory in California.
On 18 Feb 2021 the Perseverance rover landed on Mars after a seven month voyage followed by the “seven minutes of terror” landing sequence. The rover has a planned mission life of a little more than two years but, based on the performance of other Mars rovers, it will likely exceed that time by a significant amount.

The primary mission of the rover is to search for the existence of past life and for the presence of life supporting environments. It will also collect samples for a future sample return mission as well as testing technology for producing oxygen from the Martian atmosphere.
In addition to the numerous scientific instruments, the rover contains a geocaching trackable. Located on the calibration target for the SHERLOC camera system, the trackable code can be seen in images returned from that camera. Earthbound geocachers can find that code and log a discovery of that trackable.

This cache takes advantage of a unique pattern that many of us saw during the coverage of the landing. Solve the puzzle below and make your own landing at ground zero to log the cache.

Congratulations to StarBirds for FTF!
