Route 66 Overlook
No, not that Route 66 … the one of Martin Milner and red Corvette fame … but Valley Metro Route 66 (the bus) which runs from southeast Tempe north - through the heart of some serious urban geocaching country - to the Scottsdale Fashion Square mall. For Team H2’s first multi-cache we decided to draw attention to this cache-rich area.
At ten of the 60-odd bus stops along Route 66, we have hidden small clues that will provide the location of the actual cache. All of the appurtenances at the bus stops are fair game for hiding the clue, including any signs associated with the transit system. The clues all look the same, a small label attached by one or two well-used methods. You may even find multiple, identical clues at some of the locations ... look carefully. Collecting the information on the ten clues will lead you to the real cache. And please, place the clue tags back in the same position you found them in.
Now the fun part: instead of giving you the actual coordinates of each of these 10 bus stops where the clues are hidden, we have referenced their locations from other geocaches that the bus route passes by. We have given you the distance and bearing (from true north) FROM posted geocache locations TO the clue locations. You should be able to pinpoint the correct bus stops using a couple of different mathematical or graphical methods ... we used the measuring tool available with Garmin’s Mapsource software ... or you could just check out all 60 of them!

The coordinates of the final cache location are in the form of: N33 AB.CDE W111 FG.HIJ. The information that you find on each of the ten clues should be pretty much self-explanatory and collectively will provide the coordinates of the final cache location.
The final cache is a clear plastic Rubbermaid container with a white lid and is about 5” in diameter and 3” deep. It is well-hidden, out-of-sight somewhere along Route 66 and within a stones throw of the bus as it passes by. If you check the route map:

you will see that the route is nearly 10 miles long … and the cache could be hidden anywhere along the route.
02/06/05: Performed cache maintenance today and replaced all of the intermediate clues with fresh, legible ones. Also moved some to make finding them a little easier. Will also post some new encrypted clues regarding the locations.
PS: This is a good place to cache in - trash out ... take along a garbage bag.
