Geocache Description:

Mt Evelyn Memorial Gardens is the location of the memorial dedicated to those brave souls from the Mt Evelyn district who served in conflicts from WW1 onwards.  Many a dawn service has been held here on ANZAC Days past to remember the fallen.

The cenotaph originally stood outside the public hall, but with the removal of the trees of the avenue of honour in the shopping street due to the mahogany gums shedding branches, it was moved to its current location.  The field gun barrel, cenotaph, & flagpole were particularly placed to form a straight line.

The 105mm Howitzer field gun mounted in the gardens was built in Canada, and saw service in Vietnam.  The process of obtaining the gun for the memorial gardens took six years of persistence by the members of the Mt Evelyn RSL.

The Lilydale to Warburton Rail Trail passes nearby.

The cache container is a hand-made magnetic micro, and so has no room for swaps. BYOP.

Please replace the cache correctly for the enjoyment of the next finder.

Well done on the FTF FitzelFleas

Cache owners often go to a good deal of effort to plan, build, place, & maintain their caches.  We love to hear about how finders came to be at the location, what they thought of the cache, and what condition the cache is in.  We encourage you to write a little of the story of the find in your online log.
