Offida è il sorriso largo di un luogo che dal Settecento ospita un importante carnevale, ma anche il sorriso dolce di un’antica pazienza, quello delle merlettaie che, ancora oggi creano meravigliose figurazioni al tombolo sulla porta di casa, al riparo dell’ombra nella canicola estiva.
E se la morte è esorcizzata nel finto scheletro in legno della chiesetta del Suffragio, la vita fluisce nell’acqua delle fontane, nei teneri ovali delle Madonne del Maestro di Offida e nelle sensuali forme della dea Flora della fontana grande.
Racchiuso dentro le mura castellane del XV secolo, il centro storico di Offida offre da qualsiasi punto un panorama che spazia dal monte Ascensione alla catena dei Sibillini, dal monte dei Fiori al mare Adriatico, lasciando intravedere nei giorni limpidi anche il Gran Sasso e la Maiella.
La cache si trova nei pressi del monumento alla Merlettaia, realizzato nel 1983 dallo scultore locale Aldo Sergiacomi.
The stones, the faces and the objects that can be found in Offida bring happiness and high spirits. Offida is the broad smile of a place which hosts an important carnival since the 1700’s, but it is also the sweet smile of an ancient patience, that of the lacemakers who still create wonderful representations on the lace bobbins on their doorsteps, sheltered from the summer heatwave by the shade. Even if death is exorcised by the fake wooden skeleton in the “Chiesetta del Suffragio” (small Suffrage Church), life flows in the water of the fountains, in the tender ovals of the “Madonne del Maestro di Offida” (Master of the Madonnas of Offida) and of the sensual shapes of the goddess Flore in the great fountain. The historical centre of Offida, which is enclosed within the castle walls dating back to the XV century, offers a panorama which spaces from the Ascensione Mount to the Sibillini Mounts, from the Fiori Mount to the Adriatic Sea, from wherever you look from, revealing the Gran Sasso and Maiella mountains on clear days.
The cache is situated close to the Lacemaker Monument, completed in 1983 by the local sculptor Aldo Sergiacomi.
