Il Bosco del Cugnolo a Torre di Palme, si trova a poche centinaia di metri dal mare. Rappresenta uno dei pochi lembi residui di vegetazione mediterranea del litorale marchigiano e ha un eccezionale valore botanico morfologico.
Il sentiero può essere preso dall'alto partendo dal borgo di Torre di Palme, scendendo nel Fosso di S. Filippo ed entrando nel boschetto dominato da matricine ben cresciute e da querce secolari.
Oppure - ed è il sentiero consigliato perchè divertente - si può prendere dal basso, aiutandosi con delle corde nei brevi tratti ripidi. Non è un percorso impegnativo, ma va prestata attenzione se il terreno è bagnato. Dopo alcuni minuti di cammino si arriva a scorgere il mare, come da un ombroso e fresco balcone. Non cercare questa cache con le infradito!
La leggenda della “Grotta degli amanti” contribuisce a rendere più suggestiva questa bella passeggiata. La vicenda si svolse durante le guerre coloniali per la conquista della Libia, quando un giovane di nome Antonio ebbe una licenza di pochi giorni per tornare a casa dalla promessa sposa Laurina. Trascorsi i giorni di licenza concessi al giovane militare, i due giovani non vollero lasciarsi e si rifugiarono nella piccola grotta nel bosco, dove vissero la loro avventura d’amore. Quando si diffuse la voce che le autorità stavano cercando Antonio perché disertore, i giovani amanti si rifugiarono nella chiesina silvestre di San Filippo Neri e dopo qualche giorno, sentendosi braccati, piuttosto che separarsi scelsero la morte e si gettarono nel fosso di S. Filippo, uno strapiombo di 70 metri.
La cache si trova a pochi metri dalla Grotta.
The “Bosco del Cugnolo” (Cugnolo Forest) in Torre di Palme is just a few hundred metres from the sea. It represents one of the few residual strips of Mediterranean vegetation of the Marche coastline and possesses an exceptional botanical morphological value. The trail can be taken from the top, starting in Torre di Palme, descending into the “Fosso di San Filippo” (St. Phillip’s Ditch) and entering the grove dominated by well-grown matricles and secular oaks.
Otherwise – and it is the suggested solution because it is very funny – you can take the trail from the bottom, helping yourself with some ropes in the short steep sections. It is not a difficult trail, but pay attention in case of wet terrain. After a few minutes’ walking you catch the sight of the sea, as from a shady and fresh balcony. Do not look for this cache in flip-flops!
The legend of the “Grotta degli Amanti” (Lovers’ Cave) contributes to make this beautiful walk more suggestive. The story took place during the colonial wars for the conquest of Libya, when a young man named Antonio had a few days’ leave to go back home to betrothed Laurina. After the days of leave granted to the young soldier, the two youngsters did not want to separate and they took refuge into a small sandstone cave dug into the tuff walls of the wood. When rumours then spread that the authorities were looking for Antonio because he was a deserter, the young lovers took shelter in the small sylvan church of San Filippo Neri and, after a few days, feeling hunted, they chose death rather than separate from each other and they threw themselves into the ditch of St. Phillip, an overhang of 70 metres.
The cache is a few metres from the Cave.
