Geocaching older than assumed until now ?

Geocaching ist ein junger Sport und wurde erst im Mai 2000 „erfunden“. So glaubten wir alle bisher. Nach langen Recherchen haben wir jedoch Beweise gefunden, dass es Geocaching bereits seit dem 16. Jahrhundert gibt: Alte Gemälde niederländischer Meister aus dem 16. und 17. Jahrhundert zeigen dies eindeutig. Dies erklärt auch, warum gerade in den Niederlanden die Geocacher-Szene so aktiv ist.
Wir haben diese Beweise in Museen in den Haag, Wien und Frankfurt gefunden und wollen diese Dokumente natürlich nicht unseren Mitcachern vorenthalten und veröffentlichen daher Fotos folgender Gemälde auf dieser Seite:

Außerdem haben wir ein altes Dokument gefunden, welches möglicherweise den Standort eines Caches aus dieser Zeit beschreibt. Leider haben wir es noch nicht entziffern können und bitten daher um Eure Mithilfe. Wir vermuten nur, dass der alte Cache irgendwo in der Gegend der angegebenen Koordinate ist.


Geocaching is a young sport and was only invented in May 2000. This is at least what we all believed until now. After a long research we found evidence however, that geocaching already exists since the 16th century: Paintings from old masters from the Netherlands from the 16th and 17th century show this quite clearly. This also explains, why the geocaching-scene is so active especially in the Netherlands.
We found this proof in museums in the Hague, Vienna and Frankfurt, and of course we want to share these documents with our fellow geocachers. We therefore publish photos of the following paintings on the site:

The Event-Cache

Besides this, we have found an old document, which possibly describes a cache location from that time. Unfortunately we have not been able to decipher it until now and therefore ask for your support. We only suspect, that the old cache is somewhere in the area of the coordinates given.
