The Cormonachan Community Woodlands are 63.9 ha of ancient Atlantic oak & hazel woodlands and part of Scotland’s Rainforest and have the status of being ‘Ancient Semi Natural Woodlands’ (ASNW) being preserved for Conservation, Education and Recreation, with oaks of 300 years old or more and with areas of old coppiced hazel probably from around 100 years ago.
The Contemplation Shelter was built in memory of Liz Evans. Liz’s final request was to ask her friends and family to donate towards a shelter instead of giving flowers at her funeral. Over £7,000 was donated and in just 4 months planning permission was obtained, the shelter ordered, groundwork with concrete base and path prepared and then the shelter was erected.
It is a truly magnificent spot and invites the visitor to contemplate on the words that had been written about Liz and to enjoy the wonderful view over Loch Goil from the shelter that was Liz’s favourite view.
This cache is placed with permission from one of the directors of the Cormonachan Community Woodlands Ltd. It is their explicit wish to have geocaches placed in this woodlands and more will be published over the coming months.
