Welcome to NICU 2021, year eleven of this annual series I started in 2011. The cache is placed to recognize National Nurses Day (May 6th) and National Nurses Week (May 6th thru May 12th). My wife was an NICU nurse for over 30 years but is now retired. I started this series when she was still working as a great way to honor her and all other nurses for the important work they do.
This year I decided to be a little different and place a Letterbox Hybrid for a bit more of a caching challenge. I hope you enjoy this cache, and for an extra bit of fun I have placed another cache “GC9AGWZ - NICU 2021 Bonus”. It’s a simple Mystery cache and the only puzzle involved is to find this Letterbox first and look for the Bonus Cache coordinates on the side of pill bottle inside the cache container.
This letterbox hybrid is NOT located at the published coordinates. In the true Letterbox fashion, you will have to use the following instructions to locate the container.
The fire hydrant at posted coordinates will be your point of origin to project another waypoint using a set of numbers found on the north side of the hydrant. You will be looking for a large, three-digit number (3/4” tall characters), call this ABC. For reference you should see a large four-digit number (same size characters) just above that. For your projection do the following:
For bearing, use the 2nd digit only (B) of three-digit number. For distance, use the three-digit number value plus 151.85 feet (so: ABC + 151.85 feet).
At your projected waypoint, you should find yourself standing on the immediate north side of a couple large bushes (you may find the area has a little “curb appeal” to it). Now face due north and look slightly NW. You should see a large bush about 45 feet away (not a Mesquite tree). Go to the NE side, and search in the center for the 8” long by 3” diameter black, stainless steel thermal tumbler.
Sign your name or stamp the log with your personal stamp. Bring your own stamp pad, we all know how they dry out in the desert here! Be sure to leave the letterbox's stamp in the container.
**REMEMBER – the final container has the coordinates for another cache, GC9AGWZ - NICU 2021 Bonus in pill bottle within main cache container.
