Village Signs is a series of caches based on the ornate signs that depict the heritage, history and culture of the villages that put them up (normally on the village green).
The first written record of Bushey is an account in the Domesday Book, which describes a small agricultural village named 'Bissei' (which later became 'Biss(h)e' and then 'Bisheye' during the 12th century). However, chance archaeological findings of Stone Age tools provide evidence that the area was inhabited as far back as the Palaeolithic period. The town also has links to the Roman occupation of Britain, with the main road running through it being Roman; sites of possible Roman villas have also been unearthed in the area.
Despite being close to London and having Watford on its doorstep, Bushey retains the feeling of a small town.
Being located near several film studios at Elstree and Borehamwood, Bushey and Bushey Heath frequently feature as backdrops for many film and TV shows.
The village sign depicts a stag resting under an oak tree although researching has not found any history referencing it.
And now to the cache.
There are parking restrictions in the roads surrounding the village sign and the final location so please be aware.
To calculate the revised coordinates, you must face the sign and count using one side only unless instructed otherwise.
A = the number of trees
B = the number of wavy horizontal lines on each side of the trunk (not both sides added together)
C = the total number of flowers (both sides)
D = the total number of square blocks on the top (5th) line of the plinth
The cache may be found at N51 38.(Bx2)(B+C)(D-A) W000 22.(A+C)(A+D)A
Checksum for all digits of the co-ordinates is 56.
You may wish to take advantage of the seats by the village sign to watch the world go by and calculate the revised coordinates. The cache can be found a short walk away. You will need to bring your own pen and stealth may be required as this can be a busy area.
About Village Sign Caches

This cache belongs to the Village Sign Series, a series of caches based on ornate signs that depict the heritage, history and culture of the villages that put them up (generally on the village green!).
The signs can be made of different materials from fibreglass to wood, from forged steel to stone. They can depict anything from local industry to historical events. The tradition probably started in Norfolk or Suffolk and has now spread across most of the country so we thought we would base a series on them!

If anybody would like to expand the Village Sign Series, please do.
I would ask that you request a number for your cache first at www.villagesignseries.co.uk
so we can keep track of the Village Sign numbers and names to avoid duplication.
