Secondo alcuni studiosi l’origine del nome di Monte Urano deriva dalla mitologia greco-romana, dove Urano, il dio del cielo, “feconda” la terra, Gea, per mezzo della pioggia. Secondo altri studiosi l’origine del nome è "Monteraio" e Monterone", che è la combinazione di due vocaboli uno latino “mons”-monte e l’altro greco “therion”-bestia, quindi monte con animali selvatici, ma anche luogo dove si offrivano sacrifici con immolazione di tori alla divinità.
Monte Urano è una piacevole cittadina adagiata tra le verdi e riposanti colline marchigiane, a dieci minuti dal mare Adriatico e a pochi chilometri dai magici Monti Sibillini. Dopo la sua centenaria storia che lo ha visto protagonista assieme ed unito alla città di Fermo, oggi Monte Urano è un produttivo paese di 8.000 abitanti, che si estende su un territorio di appena 16,5 Kmq. A chi lo visita, Monte Urano offre una realtà produttiva in continua espansione (numerosi infatti sono i suoi spacci aziendali di calzature), una tipica ed ottima gastronomia locale (che ripercorre il tragitto della migliore cucina marchigiana), unitamente ad un clima sereno e piacevole.
Di particolare interesse la Chiesa di San Michele Arcangelo (1860 - 1877) realizzata su progetto degli Architetti Giovan Battista Carducci e Giuseppe Sacconi.
Dalla parte opposta del Palazzo Comunale si trova la Porta Nova, o dell'Orologio. E' questa l'antico ingresso al nucleo medievale del castello di Monte Urano. Le strutture originarie sono del XIV secolo, mentre l'orologio, completamente manuale che fornisce anche la data del giorno, è del XVIII su disegno di Virginio Bracci. Dalla Torre dell’Orologio inizia un percorso che porta nella zona più antica del paese, il “Castello”, per poi terminare alla Porta del Sole.
Monte Urano is a pleasant village nestled among the green and restful hills of the Marche region, ten minutes from the Adriatic Sea and a few kilometres from the magical Sibillini Mounts. According to some scholars, the origin of the name comes from the Greek-Roman mythology, where Uranus, the god of the sky, fertilizes the earth - Gaea – by means of rain. According to other scholars the origin of the name is "Monteranio" and "Monterone", which is the combination of two words, one Latin "mons"- mount and the other Greek "therion"- beast, therefore mountain with wild animals, but also place where sacrifices were offered with immolation of bulls to the deity. The place was definetely inhabited even before the Roman era. Its historical events are linked to the city of Fermo, first as its province in Roman times, then as a castle in the Middle Ages and as a territory belonging to the Fermo area under the State of the Church.
Today Monte Uranio has about 8,000 inhabitants. Its historic centre is divided into two parts: the ancient core of the old castle and the seventeenth-century part that exposes its beautiful monuments on the narrow and elongated Piazza della Libertà. This is enclosed by the beautiful Church of St. Michael the Archangel, a remarkable Neoclassical building by Gian Battista Carducci and Giuseppe Sacconi. For those who visit it, Monte Urano offers a productive reality in continuous expansion with its many factory outlets of footwear.
On the opposite side of the Town Hall of Monte Urano is the Porta Nova, or of the Clock. This is the ancient entrance to the Medieval nucleus of the Monte Urano castle. The original structures date back to the XIV century, while the clock, completely manual which also provides the date of the day, is from the XVIII century, designed by Virginio Bracci. From the Clock Tower begins a path that leads to the oldest part of the village, the "Castle", and then ends at the “Porta del Sole” (Sun Gateway).
