The black stump marks the lands of the former poonindie mission station 1850-1896 and standsas a tribute to the pioneers of this district. it was unveiledby SIR LYALL MCEWINK.B.E.16thmay 1976. it was erected by the caledonian society P.J.BAILLIE(CHIEF)The former black stump was damaged by the bush fire on 11th january 2005 was replaced by the fire proof black rock in 2006. Funds were provided by the eyre regional development board.
