Nel cuore delle Marche, nel mezzo delle distese collinari del Maceratese, si erge Montecassiano, un borgo dall’impronta medievale, racchiuso da alte mura, situato nella Valle del Potenza.
Disteso sulla sommità di un colle, offre panorami che spaziano dai Sibillini al mare, dove lo sguardo si perde nella bellezza e nell’armonia delle dolci colline marchigiane. Nel Borgo l’inesorabile trascorrere dei secoli non ha compromesso la compatta struttura urbanistica tardo-medioevale. Ancora oggi è possibile percorrere stradine, piagge e vicoli secondo un tragitto che dal XV secolo si è mantenuto inalterato assaporando così la tipica atmosfera del borgo. Il centro storico, cuore di tutto il territorio, è completamente racchiuso dalla cinta muraria (edificata a partire dal 1437) e vi si accede attraverso una delle tre porte: Porta Diaz, Porta San Giovanni, Porta Cesare Battisti.
Il luogo più emblematico e scenografico di tutto l’assetto urbano è la centrale Piazza Unità d’Italia, sulla quale si affacciano alcuni dei principali palazzi e monumenti e dove si trovava la corte del castello di Santa Maria in Cassiano (già esistente nel 1151). Da qui una spettacolare scalinata, incorniciata da un’ampia arcata, conduce alla Collegiata dedicata a Santa Maria Assunta ricostruita nel 1234 dai monaci cistercensi di Chiaravalle, e che nel corso dei secoli ha subito innumerevoli restauri e modifiche. La chiesa custodisce tra i suoi tanti tesori il bellissimo altare in terracotta invetriata raffigurante l’Incoronazione della Vergine (1527-1532), capolavoro del plasticatore fiorentino Fra’ Mattia della Robbia.

In the heart of the Marche region, in the middle of the hilly expanses of the Macerata area, stands Montecassiano, a Medieval village, enclosed by high walls, located in the Potenza Valley. Lying on the top of a hill, it offers views ranging from the Sibillini Mounts to the sea, where the gaze is lost in the beauty and harmony of the rolling hills of the Marche region. The inexorable passing of the centuries has not compromised the compact late-Medieval urban structure of the village. Even today, it is possible to walk along narrow streets, slopes and alleys along a route that has remained unchanged since the XV century, thus savouring the typical atmosphere of the village. The historic centre, the heart of the whole territory, is completely enclosed by the city walls (built starting from 1437) and is accessed through one of the three gateways: Porta Diaz, Porta San Giovanni, Porta Cesare Battisti.
The most emblematic and scenographic place of the entire urban structure is the central Piazza Unità d'Italia, overlooked by some of the main palaces and monuments and where the court of the castle of Santa Maria in Cassiano (already existing in 1151) resided. From here a spectacular staircase, framed by a wide arch, leads to the Collegiate Church dedicated to Santa Maria Assunta (St. Mary Ascended) which was rebuilt in 1234 by the Cistercian monks of Clairvaux, and which has undergone countless restorations and modifications over the centuries. The church houses among its many treasures the beautiful, glazed terracotta altar depicting the Coronation of the Virgin (1527-1532), a masterpiece of the Florentine modeler Fra' Mattia della Robbia.
