This cache is located at the north trailhead for the Weatherwax Trail in Ocean Shores. This trail gets constant use most of the year so watch for muggles, both approaching from the trail and arriving by car at the trailhead. The cache name will (hopefully) make sense after you find it.
Weatherwax Nature Preserve was established in 2016 and is named after one of the early property owners, Marian Weatherwax. This 121-acre parcel contains a mixture of temperate coastal forest with old-growth trees, wetlands, approx. 1/2 mile of Duck Lake shorline, and 1.2 miles of looping trails. The woods are home to black bears, deer, cougar, squirrels, eagles, and various other woodland and wetlands creatures. The trail is essentially flat so it’s a great spot for families to enjoy a short walk through the woods. The trailhead has parking for about 6 cars; there are no restrooms.
