Watermead is a housing estate built in the late 1980's. The two lakes were created as part of the flood planning strategy to help manage water levels in the area.
The cache is named after a popular water bird you are likely to see during your walk around the lake, look out for a wading bird near the shoreline with a red beak, not to be mistaken with their more abundant relation, the Coot, which has a white beak. You will also find some bird identification signs on your walk and this may help you identify and locate moorhens but not the cache!
Congratulations to mackiespal for the FTF!
