Papa-formigas
Também conhecido por urso-formigueiro, é um mamífero desdentado da família dos Mirmecofagídeos. Apresenta um focinho que termina por uma pequena boca circular no interior da qual se encontra uma comprida língua retráctil. Tem o corpo longitudinalmente alongado, uma grande cauda com pelos fortes e compridos e patas com grandes e poderosas garras nas extremidades anteriores.
O urso-formigueiro gigante (Myrmecophaga tridactyla) é o único membro da família dos Mirmecofagídeos cuja vida não é vincadamente arborícola embora trepe relativamente bem. É um animal cujo comprimento oscila entre 1 e 1,20 metros e a cauda pode ter um comprimento que oscila entre os 65 e 90 centímetros. O seu peso oscila entre os 18 e 23 quilos. A sua cor é cinzento-escura, apresentando uma mancha negra em diagonal marginada por branco que se estende desde a face até ao final do tórax. Possui garras fortes, longas e afiadas e em número de três nas extremidades anteriores. A língua é vermiforme de grande comprimento (podendo atingir os 61 centímetros) e de pequeno diâmetro (10 a 15 milímetros). Alimenta-se de formigas térmites e outros insetos. A gestação dura cerca de 180 dias, de que nasce uma cria que cavalga o dorso materno durante os primeiros meses de vida.
Muito semelhantes ao papa-formigas gigante são os tamanderá (Tamandera mexicana e Tamandera tetradactyla). É também um papa-formigas, o suafim do bananal ou tamanderá anão (Cyelopedes didactylus), que é o indivíduo mais estranho da família dos Mirmecofagídeos.
A cache é mais um boneco feito em homenagem a estes mamiferos que em Portugal só se podem ver no Jardim Jaleco. Não precisam sair da estrada para o encontrarem.
**Agradeço que não movam as caches do sítio, é-me muito difícil fazer a manutenção quando tenho de andar à procura das minhas caches... Prejudica a manutenção e dificulta tê-las sempre em boas condições.**

Anteater
Also known as anthill bear, it is a toothless mammal of the family of Mirmecofagids. It has a snout that ends with a small circular mouth inside which is a long retractable tongue. It has a longitudinally elongated body, a large tail with strong, long hair and legs with large and powerful claws on the anterior extremities.
The giant ant-bear (Myrmecophaga tridactyla) is the only member of the Mirmecophagus family whose life is not markedly arboreal although it climbs relatively well. It is an animal whose length oscillates between 1 and 1.20 meters and the tail can have a length that oscillates between 65 and 90 centimeters. Its weight varies between 18 and 23 kilos. Its color is dark gray, presenting a diagonal black spot bordered by white that extends from the face to the end of the chest. It has strong, long and sharp claws and three in the front ends. The tongue is vermiform of great length (reaching 61 centimeters) and of small diameter (10 to 15 millimeters). It feeds on termite ants and other insects. Gestation lasts about 180 days, from which a calf is born that rides the maternal back during the first months of life.
Very similar to the giant anteater are the anteaters (Mexican anteater and Tamandera tetradactyla). It is also an ant-eater, the bananal swamp or dwarf anteater (Cyelopedes didactylus), which is the strangest individual in the Mirmecophagid family.
The cache is another doll made in honor of these mammals that in Portugal can only be seen in Jardim Jaleco. You don't have to leave the road to find it.
