Geocache Description:

Heres an Earth Cache based on a similar hide I created in Fremont Nebraska.

The posted coordinates will lead you to a miniature Statue of Liberty.     The statue resides atop a large base crafted from classic Missouri limestone  much like the Capitol building itself.       The limestone rock is quite plentiful around mid Missouri.    Limestone is a sedimentary rock composed of the calcium bearing minerals of Calcite  and Dolomite.  Both of which can be found locally.  There is some question as to whether  or not Dolomite is a mineral or if it is a rock.     Well, in short the answer would be “Both” Dolomite the mineral is the main component of Dolomite the rock. Now, when looking at limestone you will notice less Dolomite.       Calcite limestone is approximately 90% Calcite, and 10% Dolomite, whereas true Dolomite is the inverse being 90% Dolomite, and 10% Calcite.

It is quite interesting how both statues in Jefferson City, and the one in Fremont are both composed of Local stone bases, and thus giving me a nice place to put a cache.

To log this as a find please answer the following questions.

1.  What is Dolomite?

2.   Do you notice any fossils in the limestone base?

3.    Please add a photo of the cache site in your log.
