Geocache Description:

Towering 500 feet above Lake Winona and 85 feet above the remainder of the bluff, the Sugar Loaf is easily Winona's most recognizable landmark. It came to be in the 1880s as a result of quarrying the surrounding limestone to be used for the city's buildings and sidewalks. Quarry operations ceased in 1887, leaving the iconic rock pinnacle we still see today. Native American legend says that the bluff represents the cap of Chief Wapasha I, transformed into stone.

For more in-depth history and information about the bluff, check out Doc's nearby Earthcache -- and don't forget to grab it while you're in the area.

A KB geocache used to call a spot near here home, but it has since been archived. Noticing that there were no traditional geocaches near the summit of the trail, I figured now was as good a time as ever to change that.

The cache is not far from the trail on public land. If you are looking for the cache during touristy months, you may need some stealth. It should be a relatively easy find, just watch out for thorns/ivy/the usual stuff. If the coords seem a bit off (hard to get a good reading here), just post your reading at the spot and I will average it out. Have fun and be safe.
