On the side of the road that connects the localities of Bucov and Plopu in Prahova county, an old mulberry tree has become a place of prayer for the faithful.
The tree is permanently full of icons, crosses, rosaries and akathists hanged by people, and no one dares to break even a leaf.
The legends says that, decades ago or maybe even hundreds of years ago, a man lost in the field at night and chased by wolves was rescued after taking shelter near the mulberry tree. The tree started a roar that scared the wild animals.
Grateful, the lman put an icon on the tree, and since then, hundreds of people have followed his example. Among the branches are rosaries, crosses, akathists and even prayer books, and at the base of the tree was arranged a place for lighting candles where at least one candle is constantly lighting.
The mulberry tree has become a place of pilgrimage and prayer for many people from Prahova who come especially to the tree.
This mulberry also appeares on Google Maps and the photos on the internet increased its popularity. "All the stories about the tree are local legends, probably no one knows how and why this whole phenomenon started. But it is certain that many people come to pray to him and hang icons. It was never our intension to create a hysteria of the pilgrimage to this tree ", said Teodor Marin, the deputy mayor of Plopu.
