We all love a little bit of glamour: flashing lights, the spotlight... but what about stopping for a school bus.
A little bit of history about the school bus.
The history of the school bus can be traced as far back as 1886, when Wayne Works made horse-drawn carriages known as “school hacks” or “kid hacks” in Indiana. Before then, children simply walked or rode farm wagons and sledges to get to school, and that remained the case for most even after 1886.
In many parts of the world, walking to school is still the only way to get there, as well as having to pay for your school supplies, books, food, and even the ability to participate in school can be a financial hardship that families may not be able to afford.
So next time that you have to stop for a school bus or get on one, remember it’s a privilege that many people don’t have access to, and remember while school can be hard, it’s the way that we can grow up and become productive members of society.
