A classic roadside attraction, this place has been serving and
entertaining travellers and locals alike for over 60 years. It's a
classic throwback to the days before the freeway, when California
Highway 99 was old U.S. 99.
A tourist trap to some, classic roadside kitsch to others, this
place has stood the test of time. It was originally established in
1944, and after a couple of moves, has been in this location since
1957. Since moving to this location, they have added the entire
movie set from the classic Hollywood western The Big Country, as
well as other historic buildings from around the Mother Lode. The
place has become a little weathered around the edges over the
years, but it still retains it's charm.
Please Note: The cache doesn't open until 11 AM. It is open
until dark.

Question 1: What is the name of this place??
Question 2: (N 38 03 064 W 121 15.466) When this building
was in it's original location, a "celebrity" stopped by to get warm
on a cold night. The "innkeeper" never realized that he had a
celebrity in his midst. What was the man's real name, and who was
he better known as?
Question 3: How many "guests" could this building
accomodate at any one time? What celebrity (supposedly) used these
facilities????
(Sadly, this exhibit has been taken down. It was a 3 holer
outhouse, with a sigh that said.... "Wyatt Earp Peed here." )

I've driven past this place for over 15 years, but have never
stopped before today.
Alan (AKA Uncle AL) SPECIAL NOTE: As noted in the logs,
unfortunately, this place is closing. The last day of the ghost
town will be officially December 31st, complete with the last
gunfight in the streets. It'll be a big celebration of all of the
good times had there. And then, at the showboat next door, they'll
have their last big New Years Blow Out that night. They are in the
process of taking the ghost town apart. The duckpond/fishing hole
has been drained, a lot of the stuff is for sale. The good news is
that the buildings from the movie have been sold and will not be
demolished, and the historical buildings will go back to the towns
in which they came from. (IE The Jail will go back to
Jamestown.)
The sad news is that it has been zoned for businesses in the
front, and housing in the back. And they call it progress.....
Another wayside attraction goes by the wayside. The restraunt will
remain open until approximately April 1, so go there if you have
the chance. They make some of the best chicken you have ever
