Chumash Indian Archaeological Park
This cache is an excellent choice for families with children. It is about 3/4 of a mile from the parking area on a very wide path on generally level terrain. It is stroller accessible. On the final half, there is a great deal of poison oak but you should not have problems if you stay on the path.
While you are heading to the cache site, be sure to check out the bee hives along the way. One is very large and extruding about 1-1/2 feet from a tree at about N 34° 12.655' x W 118° 48.408'. The second is within a tree as you near the cache at N 34° 12.615' x W 118° 48.224'. Unfortunately, I found out on a trip back to the site that the beehives are gone, at least in their former scale. Apparently a former caretaker's daughter was stung by a single bee and he took it upon himself to destroy both hives. The Chumash leadership wasn't pleased, and so this event in combination with some other actions led to his dismissal. Hopefully the bees will return some day.
