Lake Cleone Trail Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Sagefox: Less than 30 days left in California for Team Sagefox. Packing up a few more caches too, including this one. This is one of our favorite walks and we take it as often as we can. This would be a great location for someone else to place a cache. Thanks to Dusty Sneakers and Appolo 56 for placing the original cache here in 2001 and for getting us and Roadcow started in this game. And thanks to all who visited.

Geocache Description:

This cache is a replacement for Dusty Sneaker’s Swamp Thing. Swamp Thing has always been special to Team Sagefox and Roadcow because we found it on our very first day of geocaching, November 25, 2001.

You can get to this cache site from two different State Park parking lots. One is a small parking lot at the park entrance kiosk off Highway 1 and the other is at the ocean side of Lake Cleone, reached by heading west on Mill Creek Drive.

From either direction the trail continues on around the lake and is a great short hike with lots of bird action and nice wetlands. Winter time note: The north trail floods at the end of the boardwalk so it might be better to take the trail on the south side of the lake from the beach parking lot. The trail around the lake is actually what this cache is all about.

To be respectful of park property and to keep cachers out of dense brush and we offer this description: You can find the site by staying on trails and when you get close look for the item that is different from everything else. GPSR readings are weak through the woods but will get better as you near the clearing.
