Geocache Description:

This is a pretty cool location and is the ONLY Life Saving Station like this in New Jersey and it is right here in OCNJ.

Below is some pretty interesting information and I have included the website.  Unfortunately the museum is closed BUT it is your job to rescue this cache. You likely have to use the rescue skills you learn about here (read below) and your super stealthy skills.  Please be careful of traffic and look both ways as there are day trippers, sight seers, nosey neighbors and an alley all in the same area.

At 4th Street and Atlantic Avenue, the life-saving station was originally near the beach, but sand gradually accumulated, such that it is currently about 1⁄4 mi (400 m) from the coast. In December 1936, the facility was shut down in favor of the larger Great Egg Coast Guard Station, across Great Egg Harbor Inlet. The United States Coast Guard continued to own the property, utilizing it during World War II to store equipment and personnel who patrolled the beach for German submarines and spies. In October 1945, the Coast Guard sold the life-saving station, and for 54 years the building served as a private residence.

Here at the life saving station they would store life rafts, hooks, down the tube and other floatation devises that were used to rescue passengers and crew of boats that may run a ground off what was then called Pecks Beach.  You can use the same techniques to rescue this cache!

Please be sure to carefully place the cache back in the same location.  This can be tricky to please take your time when replacing the cache.  Having your little cacher put this back is not a good idea.  Bring your own pen.  The cache is hidden outside the museum area so please do NOT look for it in or around the structure.

U.S. Life Saving Station 30 in Ocean City, NJ

Also known as the U.S. Coast Guard Station No. 126, this is the only life-saving station (now museum) of its design in NJ (1 of 6 in the country) still in existence. The designer and architect was James Lake Parkinson in a Carpenter Gothic style. This building is one of 42 stations built in New Jersey. It was also the workplace of the brave surfmen who were the beachfront First Responders of the day.
