Geocache Description:

Today we call it Poway. The roots of this independently incorporated city go back much farther in time. Come find this easy cache and learn a little local history too. If you come on Saturday mornings between 9:00 am and 1:00 pm you can participate in a one-hour guided tour of the grounds. The cache site is handicap accessible with a little assist to recover the container from its hiding spot.

UPDATE 20 Feb 2011
Yet another replacement container, also magnetic. The hiding spot has been moved a few yards to the east an is more directly associated with the Old Pauwai site. Hint has been revised. Please replace the cache so it is not visible from the street.

UPDATE 13 July 2008
Verified the container has again gone missing. New container is a magnetic key holder with log sheet. Placement is a few feet north of most recent hide. Hint has been updated accordingly. Please bring your own writing utensil.

UPDATE 20 January 2007
Muggled again. New container lasted less than a month. Sigh. Will brainstorm something smaller and in a new location near the original coordinates. Stay tuned.

UPDATE 30 December 2006
Replaced container with 1.2 Quart Lock & Lock. Also stocked it with new SWAG, log book, pens, and flyer on the Interpretive Center. New hours are every Saturday morning, except for holidays.

UPDATE 9 April 2005
The regular size cache has again gone missing so we have replaced it with a camouflaged M&Ms tube that contains a logsheet and pencil. Original coordinates still apply.

Dedicated in June of 2002, this park recognizes a way of life that is so easy to forget in our rush to develop suburban communities. Fortunately, the Poway City Council acted back in 2000 to approve purchase of these 14 acres of land to preserve this site and support programs to educate visitors about the history and culture of these predecessor neighbors and their current descendants.

You will only be able to enter the park grounds on the third Saturday of each month at the times noted above. The cache itself is accessible 7x24.

The cache container is a clear plastic 1.3 quart Rubbermaid container. It is tucked away in the only obvious spot near these coordinates to facilitate an easy find yet keep it from walking away. There is metal nearby that may confuse your GPS unit a bit when you get close to the cache. If so, simply back off a few yards and then follow your pointer.

Original contents include two informational articles, one describing the City Council’s resolution and the second providing an account of the dedication ceremony. PLEASE LEAVE THESE IN THE CACHE for others to read. In addition, you will find a child’s kite from the Happy Isles cache (Yosemite), a sparkly crescent moon face from Short Game, a floppy disk containing The Baja Beyond – Adventures in Baja California from Chupy 4: The Walkabout, four sport whistles from Chupy 1, a premium quality hand-painted type specimen lizard (Blue Spiny – they live here), a handmade bead gecko, and a selection of small painted lizards from Team Gecko’s collection.

Please use discretion when recovering the cache, logging in, and replacing it. You may be visible to passing cars as well as the occupants of the adjoining office complex during weekday business hours. There are a few vines that should be used to mask the container so it is not visible from the street.

Good luck and have fun!
