The Mary Valley Rail Trail is an unsealed trail linking the townships of Imbil and Brooloo, using part of the former historical Mary Valley branch line with a distance of 4.7km in total along the former railway corridor alignment.
Rail Trails are shared use trails re-used from abandoned railway corridors that can be used for walking, cycling and horse riding. They link small and large towns and meander through scenic countryside just as railways did in the past. Following the route of the railways, they cut through hills, under roads, over embankments and across gullies and creeks. Apart from being great places to walk, cycle or ride, rail trails are conservation corridors protecting native plants and animals. They often link remnant vegetation in farming areas and containe valuable habitat. Rail infrastructure is usually removed when a railway is closed, but remnants of the past such as railway cuttings and bridges still remain. Throughout the corridor, you will come across old gullies, water crossings and road crossings, while seeing parts of the former railway that once serviced the line.
You can start this power trail at either end, Brooloo or Imbil, however we have numbered the caches from the Brooloo end as there are many sources of refreshment in Imbil where you can recharge halfway through your walk, turn around then take the trail back.
The cache you seek here is a very small hanging "bison". Look for the structure that was part of the former railway and you'll be there.
