Geocache Description:

This cache is a bonus to my Leeds Railway Termini Adventure Lab series.

It is a mystery cache, and the final location is most definitely NOT at the posted location, which is Leeds Railway Station.

Leeds City

The Adventure Lab series explores the history of five Leeds Railway Termini, none of which are still with us. Two, Wellington and New, were amalgamated in 1938. It is built upon an impressive 1500yd brick viaduct, which features a sprawling network of vaults. Known as the Dark Arches, they have strayed from their original role as a space for goods storage and distribution into uses such as bars, shops, music venues and car parking.

1941 WWII bomb damage was quickly repaired, and the station was extensively rebuilt and remodelled in 1967, the late 1980s (when the railway was electrified), and most recently around the turn of the millennium.

21st century changes have seen a refurbished main entrance and concourse, a new southern entrance, and an extra platform. There are plans afoot for further remodelling of the New Station Street area.

Leeds Whitehall

It is likely you have never heard of Leeds Whitehall Railway Station. Certainly, no trace of it remains today.

This station existed for just three years. In 1999, a single platform, furnished with a pair of temporary buildings providing passenger facilities and staff accommodation, was built by Network Rail’s predecessor Railtrack on the ‘Up Whitehall’ line, on the south-western side of a triangular junction around half a mile west of Leeds Railway Station.

Its purpose was to cater for trains during extensive refurbishment and remodelling works to the city’s main railway station. Overhead wires extended the length of Whitehall's platform to allow electric trains to call here. Unusually, passengers were not allowed to arrive or leave the station on foot. Instead, they were ferried on buses to and from the main station in the city centre.

The last train called here on 23rd February 2002, after which time the whole station was dismantled.

The Cache

The reason I mention Whitehall Railway Station is because this cache is hidden near to the site of the former entrance, which is a 20-minute walk from the posted co-ordinates.

To discover the exact location, you must complete the associated Adventure Lab series. Each answer to the five stages is a number, which you'll need to retain. When you have all the fragments you'll have all the information you need to get to ground zero, at N 53 AB.CDE W 001 FG.HJK.

(Marsh Lane + 10) –  Central = AFK

Hunslet Lane + Wellington = EBG

Wellington x Central = CD

(New x number of years Whitehall was open) – number of the month in which Whitehall closed = HJ

You're looking for a nano test tube, containing only a paper log. Stealth will be required, and there is limited parking close by. It should be noted that the location is close to the former Holbeck Sex Workers Managed Area, which is why I have chosen to give this cache the 'not available 24/7' attribute. Please replace carefully as found. Good luck.

Congratluations to Vaaaaa on their FTF.
