The roads at Olana ascend steep hillsides or veer close to a precipice or to water, for dramatic effect. North Road is the switch back road where Frederic Church used white donkeys from Syria to carry guests on donkey carts. No carts today. You’ll need to hoof it.
While checking out the cache, also check out the picture of Frederic Church’s “Winter Sunset from Olana” done around 1871-2 inside. However, please leave it in the cache and do not take it with you.
