Il ponte di Cecco è un ponte romano, il più antico della città di Ascoli Piceno che, attraversando il torrente Castellano, nei pressi di Porta Maggiore, conduce al forte Malatesta.
Realizzato in travertino e pietra si distingue candido e chiaro tra la ricca vegetazione circostante.
Secondo la leggenda e la tradizione popolare, la denominazione di questa opera sarebbe da mettere in correlazione con Cecco d'Ascoli, poeta ed astrologo, cui si attribuisce la costruzione del ponte avvenuta in una sola notte con l'aiuto del diavolo.
Alcuni studiosi sostengono, invece, che l'appellativo di Cecco abbia corrispondenza con il nome di Cecco Aprutino, maestro medioevale, che lo avrebbe ristrutturato, nel 1349, su commissione di Galeotto I Malatesta.
The “Ponte di Cecco” (Cecco Bridge) is a Roman bridge and the oldest bridge of Ascoli Piceno which leads to the Malatesta Fort, crossing the Castellano creek near “Porta Maggiore” (Main Gateway).
It has been realized in travertine and stone and stands out candid and clear among the rich surrounding vegetation. According to legend and popular tradition, the name of this work is related to Cecco d’Ascoli, a poet and astrologer, to whom is attributed the construction of the bridge in a single night, with the help of the devil. Some scholars instead argue that the sobriquet Cecco relates to the name of Cecco Aprutino, a Medieval master who has apparently refurbished it in 1349, on commission of Galeotto I Malatesta.
