Geocache Description:

  • Robežas iezīmēšana dabā bija diezgan sarežģīta – to vajadzēja ievilkt kartēs, iemērīt un nospraust dabā.

The boundary stone of Purmsāti manor stands and looks at the borders of the former manor.

There are no details of the year of installation, no engraved numbers or letters to indicate and give any details.

It is known that there have been several poles of this type. Many years ago, when draining (reclaiming) the fields, they were taken away or thrown into a pile of stones - they disappeared.

We can only guess where they were placed. How good it would be for them to return to their places, albeit no longer as the landmark of the manor, but as witnesses to history!

The boundary stone is a testament to the order of the manor's times, and the boundary stones were the most thorough and lasting way to mark the boundary.
Marking a boundary in nature was quite difficult - it had to be drawn on maps, measured and set in nature.
Temporary landmarks were placed, it was necessary to agree with the stonecutter where, when and what boundary stones to lay.
It is believed that often the boundary stones or just landmark stones are hammered on the spot, because there are many boundary stones that are never moved.
Most of this work was done by local peasants.
In many places, the boundaries of manors in nature were marked in the 17th and 18th centuries.
