Due torri civiche dominano dall'alto il borgo di Visso. Si tratta di due torri di guardia merlate dell’XI-XII sec., di cui una più alta, restaurata nel 1973 e con all’esterno i resti visibili di una scala che portava al primo piano. Da qui partono diversi sentieri tra boschi e montagne.
Quando si è a Visso non può mancare la nota gastronomica: il piatto tipico è il ciauscolo, il “salame che si spalma”. E’ un insaccato preparato con una speciale lavorazione del maiale, la cui carne viene macinata e infarcita di aromi. Ma tra i sapori robusti e genuini di questa terra ci sono anche i formaggi, da gustare nelle diverse stagionature, la lenticchia e il farro dei Monti Sibillini, il castrato di montagna. E, a completare il menu, i piatti preparati con la trota del fiume Nera e soprattutto con il pregiato tartufo nero.
Two civic towers overlook the hamlet of Visso. These are two watchtowers from the 11th-12th century, one of them is higher and it was restored in 1973. Outside you can see the remains of a staircase leading to the first floor. From this point several trails start into the forests and on the mountains.
When you are in Visso you cannot miss its gastronomy: the typical dish is “ciauscolo”, the “salami which can be spread”. It is a sausage prepared with a special pork processing, where the meat is minced and stuffed with herbs and spices.
But the robust and genuine flavours of this land also include cheese, to be enjoyed in the different seasonings, the lentils and the pearl barley of the Sibillini Mounts, as well as the castrated from the mountains. To complete the menu, there are the dishes prepared with Nera river trout and, most of all, with the exquisite black truffle.
