Geocache Description:

This cache is not at the posted coordinates!! From the posted coordinates, project a waypoint at a True Bearing of 3644.44 Mils (NATO) and a Distance of 4228 feet to find Mama Nerd’s nesting ground. When you find her nest, the real fun begins.

After a 40-month gestation, Mama Nerd gave birth to colorful triplets with a unique ability. At any given time, the triplet that is holding the geocaching log paper – which you must sign! – can magically project itself to a new hiding spot, leaving the remaining two triplets holding the key to the location. You should find at least two of the triplets in Mama’s cozy nest. If you tickle them forcefully along their seams, they will give up the color-coordinated clues to their sibling’s whereabouts. You will have to puzzle out the clues. Luckily, there is a table just down the trail from the nest.

What is a projection and how do you make one? There are three keys to a projection:

  1. The starting coordinates. The posted coordinates are your first starting point. The coordinates that result from the first projection are your second starting point.
  2. The Distance number and Units. Most waypoint projection calculators give a selection of units such as miles, yards, kilometers, etc. Make sure you are using the correct unit of measure or you can be far off the mark.
  3. The Bearing (Angle) number and Units. Bearings can be given in strange units such as Mils or Radians, but they usually need to be converted to the standard unit, Degrees, to plug them into a waypoint projection calculator. For example, 1 Mil = .05625 degrees, or 3644.44 Mils * .05625 = ? degrees.
