Geocache Description:

Village cricket is a term given to the playing of cricket in rural villages in England and Wales. Many villages have their own teams that play at varying levels in local or regional club leagues.

A typical summer scene of village cricket

When organised cricket first began un the 17th Century, matches were played between rival parishes or villages and this level of competition has continued.

In many non-professional cricket leagues, the adjective "village" is a descriptor used humorously, self-deprecatingly, or, sometimes, pejoratively to convey a sense of amateurishness of some aspect of the team's (or an individual's) preparation, dress, conduct or play.

Village cricket is often played on fields surrounded by trees and fields with players often playing in shorts, different shirts and with a much more laid back atmosphere.

The Heatherbank and YCA club in Walmer is no different with their fields and weekly corporate league that could be easily mistaken for village cricket.

The cache is located on the side of the A field in the surrounding veld.
