Geocache Description:

Come find a fun cache and also see the majestic interactive sculpture called “Taking Flight” created by local St. Petersburg, FL and internationally renowned artist Donald Gialanella. Visitors can "wear" the wings by standing in front of them while posing for pictures and share them on social media with the hashtag #TakingFlight. This stainless steel piece resembles angel wings and is also fashioned with two right-angle base supports, making it appear suspended. The base units, made of Corten steel, have Oldsmobile transmission gears, clutch rings, cogs, and levers added, paying tribute to Ransom Eli Olds, the founder of Oldsmar.

Oldsmar is a fun, vibrant city with many activities available to all.  There are many wonderful parks and trails to explore, go zip-lining, kayaking or spend a day at the horse races too!

Did you know that the city of Oldsmar was founded by the Oldsmobile automobile inventor R.E. (Ransom Eli) Olds?  In 1916, Ransom Eli Olds decided to purchase 37,541 acres on the northern tip of Tampa Bay.  At the age of 52, the inventor of the Oldsmobile embarked on a grand undertaking, wanting to turn this untamed land into a thriving community. The town was originally named R. E. Olds-on-the-Bay. The name was later changed to Oldsmar. In 1927 the name was changed again to Tampa Shores before being renamed to Oldsmar in 1937.

Note:  Permission for this cache has been given to the owner by the City of Oldsmar and can be accessed 24/7, so please be respectful of City property.  You may need some tweezers (TOTT) to pull out the log sheet as this is a small micro cache container.
