Winthorpe Village Hall was built in 1874 in the nearby village of Brough. In 1885, the owner of Winthorpe Hall, Mr G. T. Pierce Duncombe, moved the building, brick by brick, to the current location in Winthorpe. It continued as a church until a time that is unclear. In 1938, the then owner of Winthorpe Hall, Mr W. J. Need, presented the by now decommissioned church to the village as a reading room. It was however, subsequently requisitioned by the army for WWII as a store. Finally, in 1951, it was refurbished and began its service as a village hall.
