This year marks the 30th anniversary of the Cathedral Village Arts Festival!
This series of caches is a celebration of this vibrant community, in the heart of Regina and its love for all things art. Go down any street in the village and you will see murals, yard art and other eccentric creations. In warmer weather, it is common to hear music on the air, as residents hold concerts on their porches and invite their neighbours.
Recognizing that the area was a hub for artists, 30 years ago, community members came together to step out, create, share, and sing out the virtue of living a creative life. For one week in May the eclectic talents of those young and old are put on display and offered up to the community at large, not only enjoy, but to be active participants in. Inclusion of all has long been an important part of this community's culture. The events are all free and you will see a variety of ethnicities and abilities represented to mirror the residents who call this place home.
PARADE -- Victoria Day means one thing in the villiage-- Parade. Residents gather to watch or participate in our annual festival kick off parade down Elphinstone street. Typical of many parades, it always includes bands, dancers, clowns and bright colours. Unlike others, there are no motorized vehicles and the entire community is welcome to dress up and join the parade as it passes by. When the parade reaches it's final destination in Les Sherman Park, everyone is invited to watch some entertainment, enjoy a hotdog and participate in hands on crafting activities at the Neil Balkwill Civic Arts Center.
This cache strives to capture some of the wonder of a parade. Be sure to bring along your tools of the trade, as well as your own writting utensil. Be warry as this is a VERY muggle filled area and the resident "chocolate" dogs have proven over and over they have no concept of stealth. Please replace cache exactly as found.
Permision to place this cache is granted by the homeowner.
