Geocache Description:

Welcome to Livingston County’s Bicentennial GeoTrail!

My name is Find R. Fox. I’ll be your guide to super-sleuthing the hides at these amazing, historical locations all around our beautiful 200-year-old county!

To make your travel through history a bit easier, imagine yourself in a Time Machine (your best mode of transportation will do). Set the dial (your gps unit) to the first year (coordinates) listed below, check the waypoints for Parking and push the navigate button! Whirl your way there then switch your coordinates as needed to navigate to the geocache to sniff out the container and sign the log sheet. Good Luck & Enjoy the journey!!

Please visit this location between 8 AM and 9 PM.

The Hemlock School was built on this site in 1912. The school burned and was replaced in 1928 by the current building. In 1947, New York State Education Department was pushing for centralization of smaller districts in an effort to avoid duplication of services. Attempts to annex the Hemlock School to Livonia failed and the school remained independent until 1958 when the student population was on a steep decline and voters finally agreed to annexation to Livonia Central School District.

The school continued to be utilized by the Livonia and Honeoye school districts as overflow for primary grades and by other entities until 1982 when the decision was made to abandon the school permanently and sell the property.

Jack Evans, a former graduate of the Hemlock School and president of Velmex Corp of East Bloomfield, purchased the building for use as a light industrial manufacturing plant. In 1997, he donated the building to the town of Livonia in 1997 for use as a community center.

Little Lakes Community Association (LLCA) formed in 2017 and purchased the historic building in 2018. The organization currently hosts "The Shops at Little Lakes" selling local artisan works, offers local history and community information, a food pantry, rental space for gatherings, and various cultural and educational classes and events.

Let's pretend you are in High School and your best friend swiped your 'homework' and hid it on his way into school. Your task - to find it. Please search gently. There's a bench nearby if you need to contemplate the location or wait out a muggle.
