The theme of this year’s Cache Ba$h is Celebrating 20+ Years of Geocaching. This is the 5th of 12 geocaches we have placed celebrating the 12 years of the annual West Bend $1,000 Cache Ba$h, with this one remembering Cache Ba$h #5 (GC32A1X), from the year 2012. Parking is available just 100 feet away in the 10-car lot at N43° 25.225 W88° 12.780. If that small lot is full, there is a 300-car special event lot 225 feet south at N43° 25.191 W88° 12.800.
Cache Ba$h 2012 was the 5th-ever Cache Ba$h in West Bend. There weren't any specific themes for those first several bashes in the "early" years, but the overall concept was unique: lots of new caches (66), pre and post-bash meet & greet events, plus it was and still is one of the few geocaching events in the world to offer large cache prizes. A limited edition geocoin (pictured below) was available for purchase for the first 200 geocachers (100 Friday, 100 Saturday).
Each geocache hider for the bash chose their own theme, if any. This year’s theme is Celebrating 20+ Years of Geocaching. But back then with each hider choosing varied topics, the theme that was most memorable for us was The Goldie Diggers’ 12 holiday-themed caches, each with some type of gimmick or prop. So since those caches in the series were based on holidays, that’s the theme we chose to honor Cache Ba$h 5.
Some of the statistics:
- 568 attended logs with 660 teams (about 1,200 people?)
- 800+ caches overall located within 10 miles
- 66 new geocaches placed for the event
- 1,127 favorite votes (as of summer 2021)
- Two geo-events Friday, a post-bash meet & greet on Saturday, a photo scavenger event on Sunday, and a breakfast event on Sunday hosted by the Wisconsin Geocaching Association
- Only 1 of 66 caches still active (GC3EMHV), get it while you still can!
