Geocache Description:

The theme of this year’s Cache Ba$h is Celebrating 20+ Years of Geocaching.  This is the 8th of 12 geocaches we have placed celebrating the 12 years of the annual West Bend $1,000 Cache Ba$h, with this one remembering Cache Ba$h #8 (GC5CP99), from the year 2015.   The first stage of this two-stage multicache is located just off of the Ice Age National Scenic Trail, about 400 feet from parking.   Free parking is available in the 56-car lot at N 43° 25.175 W 088° 12.985.

The theme of Cache Ba$h 2015 was “Crazy 8s.”   A total of 66 new caches were placed for the mega event, with some pretty crazy themes. One of the crazy optional activities for that bash was the “The Great 'Pieces of Eight' Pirate Pursuit.” Find the eight 'official' pirates roaming around in full costume on Saturday. Each one had a special color bead that you could add to your Pieces of Eight bead necklace (found in each geocacher’s goody bag). Find all 8 beads to earn an extra ticket for the Prize Drawing.  It was a huge hit!  There was a pirate costume contest that followed, which was won by Mos Eisley Pirates, who even grew a long beard just for the event!  A one of a kind special geocoin was minted for the event which featured a spinning center.

Some of the statistics:

  • 706 attended logs (about 1,400 people?)
  • 1,200 caches overall located within 10 miles
  • 66 geocaches including 8 lab caches
  • 1,537 favorite votes (as of summer 2021)
  • Thursday and Saturday meet & greet events, Friday and Saturday lab caches, a Friday CITO event, and 3 events on Sunday, including a kayak float down the river
  • 17 of 58 caches still active as of summer 2021 (‘git them while ye still can ye scallywags!)
