Geocache Description:

Nikšić Tourist Spots #5:  Ramparts of Onogost

Nikšić Tourist Spots:  I have been visiting Montenegro's second city, Nikšić, since 2001. I love the city and love the people and there are some amazing spots in the city that make this an amazing location for a couple of days tourism and exploration that are well off the beaten track. This series will help you explore some of these places!

Ramparts of Onogost

The fortress was built by the Turks in XVIII century after the conquest of the Slavic Onogošt.  The fortress was always a place of battles for the town during the many wars, the last battle at the walls of the bastion took place in 1878, when Nikšić was set free by Montenegrin Prince Nikola I. Then Niksic gradually started to become urban settlement, and the need of fortifications was not required any more. The town start living a new life, attracting new settlers.

From time to time the fortress hosts various cultural events including the annual Bedem Rock Fest.

To the cache....

You don't need too walk far but you do need to watch your footing.  The ground is very uneven.  Children need to be supervised.

NTS BONUS ANSWER 'E':  Walk to the opposite end of the fort (the north end).  What date in April is painted blue on the floor, underneath a painted sun in the open tiered area?  E = 22, 25 or 28.
