Lavender Fields at Warrington Manor was part of a 1000-acre patent made by William Penn in 1684.
Over the years the land was handed down to several families, including Thomas Fisher and Reverend James Martin (of the Fisher Martin House in Lewes DE); the Warrington family (1761-1946); and Weldon and Elizabeth Brittingham (of Lewes Dairy), who subdivided the acreage in 1973 to the current five acres. John and Martha Heikel restored the farmhouse in 1970; Pauline Petitt from England purchased the farm in 1994, planted the first lavender plants and then sold the farm to Sharon Harris and Marie Mayor in 2002. Harris died in 2020 and Mayor continues the current lavender farming operations.
The property has always been a producing farm, starting as a major fruit grower in the late 1850s with 3,400 peach trees as well as apples, pears and other small fruits. Grain and sugarcane were also grown and sorghum was manufactured. The silos, corn crib and milking shed were added for milk processing in 1958.
After several years of hard work, many updates and projects Lavender Fields at Warrington Manor has become a popular year-round agritourism destination for visitors and locals alike. Centrally located in between Georgetown, DE and the Lewes, Rehoboth DE beaches in Milton, DE.
