Hyde Wood is a quiet privately-owned woodland near Woodham Mortimer, although there is a single public footpath that runs along the northern edge of the woods, starting at the end of Tyndales Lane and ending on Marlpits Road. The wood is used in the winter predominantly for gamekeeping.
History of the area is difficult to come by, although the field on the southern side of the wood was reportedly a field hospital during the First World War. The nearby village of Woodham Mortimer contained a hoard of Roman coins dated as far back as 41 CE, and first appeared in written record in 975 AD, under the name of “Wudeham”.
The cache itself is a custom container with a nano tube inside which contains the log, and all the caches on this trail are accessible from the public footpath without any need to cross into any of the land that is marked as private land. Please try to return the logbook container and custom container exactly as found, ready for the next cacher to come along and find it.
